Switching from Topsolid to Solidworks - > the pitfalls?

Hi cartoonists.

I just joined a company that works under TopSolid.
They have to upgrade the software ... and the question arises whether to do this upgrade or to switch to Solidworks (basically, it's now or never!)

So, in order to see more clearly, what are the points to keep in mind to make the decision?
For those who have made the switch, have you encountered any unexpected problems?

And finally, what about the database? Is there a kind of " large mixer " that allows everything to be switched to STEP?

Hello,
I have several questions that come to me quickly:

  • What is the volume of data?
  • What is the number of files?
  • What is the number of users?
  • Are there any problems with TopSolid?

Hello coin37coin,

I found a comparison " Topsolid vs Solidworks " on the net.
Maybe it can help you=>TopSolid vs SolidWorks comparison: CAD software guide

AR.

The question was asked at our company 15 years ago since we had 2 separate design offices (following a company takeover) on TopSolid and SW.
We had weighed the pros and cons of the 2 softwares.
For Topsolid:
The advantages were CAM (used for the mecha part of our machines), faster for large drawings but less easy to modify from an assembly.
The defect of switching to the topsoli 7 version (from memory) broke the whole (catastrophic) principle of topsolid sketches (the famous concatenated sketch was mandatory)
For SW easier to hire, more user-friendly very simple sketch.
In addition, we started at that time to develop automatic launches under SW thanks to the visiativ utility (non-existent under topsolid) and then in SW macro.

The solution was therefore naturally SW.
