Hello
I searched all over the internet and on many open topics in the forums of the site but without success.
We are looking for a way to link the bubble of a drawing to a part BOM (Part Explorer).
I know this kind of thing is done on other PDM and design tools but I feel like the logic of Solidworks doesn't allow it.
Could anyone help me?
Hello
An image of what you call 'a bill of materials (Item Explorer)' could surely help people answer you
Kind regards
Thanks, for the quick intervention, here is an image from the article explorer.
In the image, the mapping of variables between articles and files is not yet done.

Hello
Already that the SW bubble tends to bug with a nomenclature created in the MEP of the ASM, I fear a little the worst in your case.
But hey, necessity sometimes makes law.
Is your "article explorer" an ERP?
In any case, I do not believe that you will be able to have a dynamic link between your nomenclature and the MEP.
One solution would be to generate an excel file from your BOM and attach this file to the MEP. The question remains how SW could match an item in the BOM with an object in the ASM.
No, no, the article explorer is a PDM Pro tool on which I see very little help indeed, but it's native to PDM
See attached image.

Good evening
We do not use the EPDM number generator so it is impossible to use the article explorer.
This must be the case for many people (and even those who use the number generator may not use the article explorer).
You will probably have a hard time getting an answer on the forum.
A priori there are probably columns missing to do this in your article explorer (like your bubble value). So you probably have to touch your initial settings to hope to do what you want.
Otherwise it is possible that the configuration is to be found on the BOM side (there are 4 different types of BOMs including a special one for 'BOM items' (i.e. for items with item number).

Hello
Solidworks PDM has its own logic for scheduling bills of materials (don't ask me which one, it doesn't correspond to what's in SW or to the way PDM calls the different files when you get a version).
On the other hand, it is possible to display the BOM present in the files (in which case the balloon numbers are displayed and are therefore linked to the BOM physically in the model, whether in a drawing or in an assembly).
I don't know if this applies to articles because I don't use this feature, so I should test it based on your files.
In any case, as far as I know, in the BOM tab of PDM, it is not possible to display line/bubble numbers since it does not seem to handle this kind of information natively.
Regarding the stability of the BOMs in SW, it seems to me that by blocking on following the assembly order in the BOM parameters we are less subject to fanciful numbering that would move from time to time. Anyway, for years the MEP has been the poor relation at SW.
I have a doubt about the meaning of the question:
- Is the idea to make the bubble ref from the MEP SW appear in the article explorer?
or
- is it to retrieve information from the article explorer in the MEP SW?
I admit to you, one or the other solution would suit me. The idea is not to have to do the work twice.
But from what I understand from the previous answers: it doesn't seem native, nor easy to set up if necessary, or even unstable.
I think I'm going to rethink the workflow differently.
What is native in the BOM tab of assemblies/mep in Soldiworks PDM is the display of the BOMs integrated in these files (drop-down menu that lists the different BOMs that can be displayed).
Let's say that I have the impression that the second possibility seems easier to do by going through a macro that would read the existing nomenclature and retrieve the bubble info.
