Why is this function not being carried out?

Hello, I have a PC that is extremely slow, and when I'm on solidworks and I want to do a linear repetition with material removal, my PC does it but only half with a duration exceeding 15 minutes, do you have any ideas to solve my problem, thank you in advance.

The slowness can be due to unsuitable equipment, that's clear,

Anti-viruses can also be a problem.

Everything that is repetition is also resource-intensive (this is true on other CADs).

3 tracks:

- change your equipment for a real workstation (do a performance audit beforehand)

- Implement an ad-hoc methodology in SolidWorks

-throw your PC out the window by dint of waiting

NOTE; The 3 solutions can be expensive but will relieve the user

Hello

Maybe by adding the piece as an attachment, we could see what it is all about!

What version of SolidWorks? PC that is more like 2 or 3 years old or 10 years old?

Hello

There is also the solution of doing a linear repetition in the sketch before doing your material removal.

Even if it all depends on what you have as a sketch and the missing info on your PC and your software version.

Kind regards

Hello

To get started, I advise you to go to Get Started > all the programs > Accessories > Run.

In the "run"  window you type: msconfig

You must come across this menu  http://screenshots.fr.sftcdn.net/blog/fr/2008/06/msconfig_02.png

The next step is to uncheck all the options that are not useful at startup. It's not easy to do it when you don't know too much but for my part, I only have the antivirus of my pc which is checked so you can go through quite a bit....

A good re-installation of your workstation is necessary if slowdowns are not usual. See a change of hardware if you are on a recent version of solidworks.

Regarding linear repetitions, this is one of the most demanding functions because it copies the intergrality of the parameters of your function to be repeated!! You should therefore check the "geometry repeat"  box at the very bottom of the repeat function if possible. (http://help.solidworks.com/2012/French/SolidWorks/sldworks/Geometry_Pattern.htm)

Let us know how far along you are with your problem-solving.

I think that with a little more precision we will be able to develop our answers a little more.

However, a repetition of functions is not always necessary depending on what you want to achieve. What I mean by that is not an example: if you have to represent a perforated sheet with hundreds of holes, even if the workstation is efficient, you have to expect a significant calculation time. For this kind of case, he exsistes pre-computed textures in solidworks that represent the holes (in appearance, miscellaneous, realview appearance, drill repeat representation).

For my part, I've often seen functions that go on a PC and not on the friend's PC (different PC of course, in terms of power and identical software version).

So somewhere, an operation is not executed correctly at the processor level and there is a freeze.

So 3 solutions,

1/ simplify the function to be repeated, build the part differently

2/ Increase the RAM if saturated

3/ change your PC, especially if it's a production PC! :-D

Thank you for your answers, what I have to do is a wire mesh or perforated sheet so I think I will retain the solution of Fthomas, but in any case thank you for your opinions.
