Why is the swipe not working?

Hello

As I explained on an old question:

I'm coming to you because I think I have the same problem that mbrel34 encountered here...
However, I can't seem to solve mine!

In my case, I have a volume (handling ear; see PJ) from an extrusion (so far so good).

Under this extrusion, I want to round so that the shape matches the profile of a lifting eye.

However, it is impossible to do an extrusion of material by sweeping... The profile I give doesn't seem correct (on the other hand the "circular profile" option in the function works very well; look for the error).

_-_-_-_-_

The final ear should look like this:

PS: I managed to do what I wanted otherwise: with the Leave function... However, my piece is 120mm thick, and the ring has an Øint of 140mm... This forces me to do an extruded material removal at the end:

_-_-_-_-_

So, my design problem is solved... But that doesn't tell me why the swipe doesn't work.
Do you have any idea of the problem ?

Thank you in advance, and have a good day!

3d.sldprt

Hello Matt.H

It works but under certain conditions of configuration (see the attached PDF document )

Kind regards

Hi @ Matt.H

See if it suits you

it's for the principle

On the other hand, if it's more like this, there's just a small modification to make.

In fact it all depends on the exact profile but I have the impression that it is a very large casting part (2 meters su I see the ladder on the photo.

Kind regards

@gt22

You did a straightening, right? (I can't see well, zooming in is a bit blurry)

@Zozo_mp

Indeed, with the modification of the option to "keep the normal constant" it works.
It's a shame, I would have liked the profile to be normal to the guide curve ... But hey, it's a blessing in disguise, because it has the merit of working!

For me, the problem is solved!

On the other hand, I don't like the final shape as much as my fillet + extrusion solution that I used...

_-_-_-_-_

After searching a little more, I know why my profile can't follow my guide curve --> At some point I have an "extrusion of extrusion" if I can say so.
The function curls up on itself! I explain in the attached pdf.

Thank you in any case for your feedback, it allowed me to move forward!   :-D

Yes it's good via a smoothing

At the sight of the room I found it more suitable

Okay I see, it could have been another idea for the R70mm lacing to be done following the curve.
For the moment, I'm going to keep what I did, it's pretty close to reality... But I'll keep your proposal under wraps for the next ears.

@Zozo_mp

Your last example is far too far from reality. Because you're right, it's a casting, but smaller than you think (the ear is a block of about 120x120x160mm, made of cast iron).

I really have to keep the sides straight, the ear profile bulging, and the rounded underside for handling.
So the 3D I shared is enough.
