Problem in setting up a family

Hello

I have a small problem with my family of rooms.
When I created my part family, I didn't notice that the end of my part naming was incremented. This is reflected in the properties in the configuration name.
In a way, that's what I want.

After noticing my error, I correct the excel file

but the name of the configuration does not change.

Where is my problem?

Kind regards

Hello;
You need to modify the first column of your family of parts in Excel (the one that has no headers...)
you also need to make sure that you have checked the box for updates between Excel and 3D
(right-click on the part family icon in SOLIDWORKS).

Kind regards.

Hello Maclane
I have modified the first column (2nd image of my message)

I think the box is ticked
(Room Family, Right Click, Edit Function)

But this is not being updated.

Kind regards

PS: I use SW2016

I just noticed, that when I close excel I get the message: No occurrences of family ...
image
Is this why SW doesn't update the coin flaw?

Yes, that's why you must have a column with no real link to the family of parts that is causing the problem.
Post your piece with the family (a screw should not have too much privacy)
Usually, after pressing ok, a message appears briefly to give you the name of the column that is in error. (for me at the top right of the room window or AS.

Hello;
I agree with @sbadenis ...
There is always another (backup) solution: delete the family of parts (make a backup if you have equations in Excel...).
Manually rename your configurations directly in Solidworks and then rebuild the part family.
… a question suddenly comes to me: do you use "Configuration-publisher"? This can be a factor blocking the update.

Kind regards.

To complete @Maclane the columns that are safe (generally of the type A1@Esquisse1 you place them 1st in the Excel file and if you have a column with formula in the last column because columns not used for dimensions tend to block changes in the part family.

Hello

Can you share your file so I can take a look at it, I still have 2016.

Hello
Here is the family of Piéce.
Torx ISO 14583-2011.SLDPRT Wide Domed Head Screw (645.4 KB)

It was recorded in SW2016

There are configuration names that I have renamed manually
I only dealt with the M2 and M6

@Maclane
I don't have " Configuration-publisher "

Kind regards

Hello;
I just opened your file:
Several small points.

  1. You should manage your equations directly from your Excel spreadsheet rather than with Solidworks.
    image

2)You hid from us that you use derived configurations... In this case I advise you to export the '@PARENT' parameters to Excel (especially if you need to rename them.
image
=> Remember to change the @Parent setting if you rename your configurations...
image

  1. Excel Structure:

    As suggested @sbadenis , avoid columns without headers (Red Frame and Green Frame and beyond) in the middle of your controllable values. (Leave at least one column completely empty between your configuration parameters (dimensions and properties) and your purely Excel columns (concatenations/equations...).

=> Given the amount of inaccuracies, I advise you to make a small backup of your Excel file, delete your table in Solidworks in order to start from a healthier base...

However, here is my proposal for your family of parts (to be checked/checked by you...) …
Worksheet in ISO 14583-2011.xlsx Wide Torx Domed Pan Head Screws (24.7 KB)

3b) Optional: Use Excel functions such as " Concat " or " Concatenate " rather than the accumulation of " A "&" B "&" C "&" " ...

Personal note:
Even though it is possible to ask Solidworks to follow the order established in Excel, rather than an alpha-numeric organization... I advise you to use the Excel formula:
TEXT(" B1 ";"  000 ") => if the value in cell B1 and " 2 ", Excel converts it to " 002 " (depending on the amount of ZERO in the formula. (Be careful, this does not work with decimal ciphers (with commas or periods).

Erratum: I just noticed that you already had the @Parent parameter in your family of parts... I missed it because, for me, this value is always located directly in the second position (2nd column.)

Kind regards.
