I'm having a problem opening SOLIDWORKS files from a folder window.
Since the installation of SOLIDWORKS 2020 SP4.0, when I open a file through the SOLIDWORKS explorer no problem, dragging a file from a window to SOLIDWORKS no problem, on the other hand if I double-click on the file to start opening, SOLIDWORKS systematically starts a print of the document in question, whether it is a part, an assembly, or a drawing.
This is probably due to the default application to open these files which is incorrectly set in Windows. Right-click on a SW file in Windows Explorer and then "open with", "Choose another application", select "Solidworks Launcher" and check the box "Always use this application to open files.... ". If this solves your problem on this type of file then repeat the operation for other SW-related extensions.
Yes, whether Solidworks is opened or not, the double click opens the file, once opened, the print starts automatically, and then the operation is normal.
And if you put SolidworksLauncher as the default as d.roger proposed and not just Solidworks because it seems to me that this is the one you need by default.
Here, I discover in a resounding way, a new function of solidworks , namely the "retain" function: you will notice that it works under SW 2020, another new feature that does not appear in the version description.
I would be tempted to say that to get the points of the right answer you just have to "retry". All those who tried to answer tried their luck so much and more
Your ego message is not very fair! What @Zozo_mpmeant is that the designation of the best answer that you have validated is not of much use for users who may encounter the same problem.
This forum is designed to help the CAD user community. Closing a question with the correct answer provides direct access to the solution proposed by all members of the community. If people take the time to provide answers, it is only to help. I think that this forum has proven its worth and that many questions have been resolved. The exchanges are and must remain cordial!
And it doesn't occur to you that there could have been a bug or a validation error?
It's easy to be clever, except that not everyone has all the time to hang out on the forums, some have to work.
It was enough to put it simply, @Zozo_mp's almost contemptuous words just show that he loves to be clever, but I gave him the points since it seems to be so important to him!
Let's just say that you're unfortunately not the first to do the trick to us. And your new "best answer" doesn't improve the image you give of yourself.
Choosing a "real" correct answer allows you to limit the time you have to spend on a forum to find it...
