SLDW 2018 Launch Issue

Hello following a big cleaning of my PC due to a virus attack my student version of solidworks 2018 did not want to launch anymore and was stuck on loading the task pane, so I reinstalled it but nothing helped. The problem persists!

Would anyone have a solution?

Thank you in advance!

Ewan

At this point, it is better to format and reinstall completely and cleanly, the "cleanup" may have killed files/registry keys used by SW.

Format? my hard drive? What about all my other software/files?

If not, reinstall, check for deletion of all solidworks folders and registry keys?

Files can be saved, software can be reinstalled.

So before formatting:
- we make an inventory of the software;
- we check that we have the media/files/product keys to be able to reinstall them;
- personal files are backed up (something to be done on a regular basis anyway, the failure rarely warns);
- we do a deep antivirus check (so on another machine) to be sure that there is nothing lying around;
- we format (we take the opportunity to partition our hard drive to have a given zone and a system zone) possibly going through a system recovery if it is planned on the machine;
- the software is reinstalled;
- the data is reinjected.

Hello

I have already deleted all the registry keys from SolidWorks and deleted the folders, but nothing helps! (roaming and temp for the files, any idea what I could have forgotten?)

Stefbeno, unfortunately I don't have the time to get into something as empirical (for me), being only a student it could also be that I don't have all the licenses of my software, which will make the task complicated. (The great classic, we are asked to submit projects using overpriced software, but not  the shadow of a student license for most of them.)

It wouldn't be the graphics card drivers that would be misconfigured now and that would no longer allow the loading of solidworks,

Check the compatibility by launching solidworks RX (software installed at the same time as solidworks)

Hello

Thank you for your answer sbadenis I just checked,  indeed my card (GTX 1050) is not compatible really surprising since it worked before!

edit: there is a card driver update to do, I'll give you feedback soon

Good evening

It's confirmed, the problem persists... and the graphics card is not recognized, but obviously it only bothers the solidworks rendering engine?

Hello

Graphics cards are not strictly speaking "compatible" or "incompatible" with Solidworks but "certified" or "not certified". For my part, I have been running with a non-certified card for a few years and the only problem I have had is lately Solidworks crashes as soon as I open any file, a problem that appeared following an update of the driver of this graphics card and that I solved by re-installing the previous version of this driver.

For your problem, did you follow all the cleaning steps between uninstalling and reinstalling? Look HERE to help you.

Kind regards

Hello

thank you for your answer I'm trying the tutorial,

I'm giving a quick feedback.

Kind regards

D.Roger, the problem persists...   I followed all the steps of the tutorial but it doesn't seem to work

The big cleanup may have been a little too big. Try to go back on the graphics card driver (you have to find the version that was in place before the malfunction).

How many are you on Windows?

Good evening

Thank you for your answer, I'm on Windows 10, any idea where I can find the driver in question? Nvidia's website doesn't offer it, or at least not anymore!
A quick question by the way: how could the graphics card prevent you from running Solidworks knowing that some of my colleagues run it without a dedicated card?

Hello

Look HERE for the driver.

Kind regards

Good evening everyone,

I tried to install several versions of the driver but it doesn't seem possible (windows version problem) only the last one seems to work!
One of my colleagues  just had the same problem after a cleaning by MalwareByte. Maybe a  lead to dig in there? I have the cleaning reports of both machines if it can help!

cdlt,

Ewan
