Part Family Insertion Problem

Hi all

I call for help following a problem with my SolidWorks:

When I try to insert a part family into a SolidWorks part and I select "Empty" or "Auto-Create" as the source and then I validate, nothing happens...

I don't have the "Tables" folder created or a hidden window that opens, I don't understand where this problem comes from... I manipulate a lot the options of SolidWorks etc but now I'm drying...

Probably a trigger: We are currently in the process of changing PLM in my company, we are switching to PTC-WindChill. So I had to pair my SolidWorks with WindChill for the integration of WindChill into SolidWorks, then I had to decouple it, maybe the problem comes from here, I don't have the slightest idea. In my opinion, the integration of SolidWorks with WindChill could have created lines of code which, once decoupled, prevents the creation of part families, that's a hypothesis...

I have already:

  1. reset the SolidWorks settings,
  2. Restarted the computer,
  3. Restarted SolidWorks,
  4. Re-paired with WindChill to try again, then decoupled again
  5. Contacted the IT department to run SolidWorks in admin mode, same problem.

I didn't uninstall and then reinstall (because at least one afternoon of downloading etc),

The closest forum to the problem is this one: https://www.lynkoa.com/forum/mat%C3%A9riel-cao/cr%C3%A9ation-famille-de-pi%C3%A8ce-impossible-sur-solidworks-2020windows-10office-365

But no viable solution...

I know it's going to give a hard time to those who are going to be interested...

Thanks in advance,

Calvin.

Is your version of Excel compatible with your version of SW?

EDIT: with the link it's better...

Hello sbadenis, thank you for your answer,

Yes my version is compatible, moreover it worked perfectly before,

Kind regards

Have you checked if you don't have an Excel process (task manager) launched before the creation of your part family (Ghost Excel process due to Windchill perhaps?)

If so, you kill him and try again, otherwise no other idea and I invite you to see with the hotline, unless a colleague has another idea but for such a particular case, not having Windchill, impossible to say where the error comes from.

Thank you anyway for your help

Have you tried to open a room with a room family already created before and edit it? to see if the problem occurs again or not.

Yes I have already tried for the existing files when I edit the part family everything works fine, on the other hand if I delete the part family and try to re-insert it, always the same problem.

I found this to see if the problem is similar:

Hello

We had this problem at home,
We reset Excel, because a checkbox that was not default was Enable and prevent the creation of the part family in SolidWorks
We had searched for a good 1 hour, just because of a checkbox, but as it's been a long time I don't remember which one it was
But by putting the default settings of Excell sa had worked
Maybe it's the same problem

Good afternoon

Hello;

I am of the same opinion as  sbadenis , it is often an Excel precessus not, or badly, closed (most of the time caused by the view tab of the windows browser). At the same time, close all Office processes and empty your temporary directories.
If closing them doesn't solve your problem, here are some other avenues to explore:

And, for my personal information: isn't WindChill a PLM more dedicated to CREO than to Solidworks?

Kind regards.

Hi all

I finally solved the problem, I hadn't paid attention but my excel was in 32 bits and not 64, by switching to 64 bits the problem is solved,

PS: thanks to sbadenis for the link to your video, some people had the same problem as me in the comments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6chcfEUJeSU

Thank you all for your answers and your responsiveness,

Have a good week everyone
