In my test, (Airpods Surface V1 file) during the smoothing, I have the message:
There was no way out of it.

I'd like to help, but we're in 2022 version SP5.
So even with STEP it's not possible, it's up to me that you can save in 2022 version or can see a screenshot or several.

@A_R t understand everything, I think you wrote a bit quickly, it seems like a few words are missing! 
@ajrigaud same as the 2023 max version for me and few people are in 2025.
At the limit a few screenshots could perhaps show the problem?

Have you tried to modify your selections with the help of the SelectionManager?
It sometimes helps if you don't have simple sketches but only surfaces to select.
And given the position of the two bodies, I think that a guide curve would not be a luxury.
If really Solidworks doesn't want to do the smoothing:
Creates a sketch on the starting body, taking care to split it at least once:
Creates a second sketch on the destination body with the same amount of Split.
Adds a guide curve.
And if it still doesn't work either... And well I have more ideas.

The manager selection works in my model (V0) but not in what I want to reproduce (V1)
By adding a 3D sketch (without splitting) it works.
Not easy the surface with a whole bunch of options not very explicit ...
