Visualization problem between solidworks and Edrawing

Hello.

We use at the BE meca Solidworks 2023 and at the Edrawing workshop 2023 as well.

2 Questions:

Why when they open an ASM file on Edrawing in the workshop, sometimes it is not up to date when we have changed nothing since then? They want to check something that is wrong with them but just with us

Why when an asm file is opened in edrawing, they make it read-only for opening on solidworks?

Thank you in advance for your insights.

Hello
I can at least help you with the second question.
If the file is opened by an application (no matter which one), the operating system (Windows I guess) puts it in drive-only mode so that no one modifies it while it's open. The file is considered used.
Even if the software in question can't modify it!
And this is valid for all files except for rare exceptions (shared files, HTML...).
It might be a good idea to export your SW files to the Edrawing format.
Advantage: your SW files remain available for the BE
Disadvantage: risk of forgotten update...
Have a nice day.

Hello;

The Edrawing player is most often obsolete because they " only " open the assembly and make up for any updates of subassemblies or components that could have been updated after the last registration of this assembly.
(This is more like a light mode opening without updates to Solidworks components.)

As for " Read-only " is good, it's easier to explain: If the user opens the " sldasm " file directly with Edrawing, he takes control of the file and gets " focus " on it.
to limit this state, Edrawing offers the option: " Open as Read-Only "

But this implies that Edrawing is open and that the user goes to look for the file to open from this software. (Drag and drop does not support this option.)

In short, to avoid, or at least, update and read-only problems, the wisest thing would be to export your Solidworks assemblies directly to the Edrawing format and ask the workshop to open only these files.
Disadvantage: you will have to remember to renew the registration each time the assembly is updated...

Hello both of you.

Thank you for your quick answers.

I had more or less in mind your different solutions, which I am not 100% satisfied with, but that's how it is.
I also wanted to see if I was going through something I didn't know.

I share your opinion on the generation of the Edrawing and to have it opened by the workshop, but that you have to make sure that the latest updates of the equipment are ok.

Thank you again.
