Hello
I would like to create a database of 3D files.
Indeed, it is easier to open and edit 3D files when everything is saved in the same folder. (and it avoids duplicates)
So I made an excel file connected to the 3d folder in question.
The idea would be to be able to bind filenames to their custom properties.
Thanks to the smartbom tool, I was able to retrieve the properties of each file.
I'm stuck on the last steps, where it would seem that we can import the properties with " intergration " but I don't understand how it works, and also I still have the problem of finding all this information on the excel file containing the database.
What exactly are you looking to do with Integration? I didn't quite understand.
The goal is to modify the properties in the excel file and reinject them into the room?
Yes, the goal is somehow to fill in custom properties ONCE.
So yes, reintegrate the changes made on excel directly into the 3D files
The best would be to be able to import my database as it is updated.
Smartbom or Integration does not allow you to update your desired list automatically.
You may be able to do it via the Smartbom, but I haven't seen anything that looks like it or otherwise via a macro that would add a line to your Excel file if this line doesn't already exist.
On the other hand, it only goes one way.
In addition, you risk having a 3D folder with so many files in the end, that it will be impossible to open without crashing.
Hello;
In theory, " Integration " allows you to force the properties of the 3D from an Excel sheet.
(See attached document). (Source MyCad/Lynkoa/Visiativ... I don't know what to call them anymore.)

I agree with sbadenis on his warnings.
- Directory size Vs Processing time (import/export)
- Management of multiple configurations (Parts/Assemblies/parts in Assemblies...)
- Read-only on library file.
- The rigour that this solution requires...
- automation issues...
- What about software updates and Properties...
Kind regards. (And good luck above all)
Hello
Thank you for your answer, I'll try to see what is possible with "Integration".
I had also found a reddit post with the document manager API that would make it easier. https://www.reddit.com/r/SolidWorks/comments/gqpny7/free_macro_to_manage_solidworks_custom_properties/
But hey I can't register my product key on the customer portal...
