I just realized that you can make " welded construction" type forms:

The only point that for me remains a bit of a pain in the ass is the fact that I have to:
- Select the item from the welded parts list
- Click Apply
- Select Next
- Click on Apply ...
But hey, on the assembly MEPs I have a detailed nomenclature as described by @ronathan .
