Custom Properties - Form Editor [SOLIDWORKS]

Hi all

I'm trying to create a custom properties form to drive a few dimensions of my room.

So I open the form creation tab, so I create my form and save it under the path stipulated in Tools, Options, File Locations, Custom Property Files:

C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS 2015\lang\english

However, I still don't see it in the custom properties insert (see attachment).

Can someone help me?

Ps: I'm on SolidWorks 2015 SP 3.0.

Hello, what is the file format? Maybe a windows search of the extension will quickly find the folder.

you don't have to create the form under sw but with the Forum Editor utility.

Otherwise sw can't find it... well it was like that under SW12 (and it followed under SW15).

Hello

I advise you to move your files to a network location to make them accessible to other SW users. In addition, in the event of a change of station, it will be facilitated.

By doing Options then File Locations then Custom Properties File and adding your folder.

[edit] Apparently the file extension is prtprp

There are two bugs reported to SolidWorks which reports that by default the files are not saved in the correct folder:

SPR #:
453282

In multi Sw environment, the default save as path of Property Tab Builder is not the path in file location for custom properties file

SPR #:
881624

In Property Tab Builder,List of text file does not save its path(location) when manually pointing the path.

So my first message is still valid:

A search in Windows (by activating the system file search options) by type should allow you to see which folder they are in, the types are:

.prtprp for parts

.asmprp for assemblies

.drwprp for drawings

.wldprp for welded constructions

Otherwise, to launch the editor out of SolidWorks:

To get started, click All Programs > SOLIDWORKS version SOLIDWORKS Tools > Property Form Editor.

Thank you for your answers, indeed the format is in prtprp.

@remrem, just as you can see in your screenshot, the "add" button of Options then File Locations then Custom Properties File is grayed out, so I can't add a new location. In any case, I keep this wise advice! We will have EPDM, perhaps we will be able to use it to pool these documents.

@opiep27, even when creating the form from the SW utility does not regain access, yet I save it in the right place.

@PL, I can see very well where my files are stored (see attached image) but SW doesn't make the connection

[EDIT] You can indeed add a new directory for custom properties, but you have to delete the old folder! Even if he does this, SW still can't regain access

The SPR bug #:453282 designated by Lucas and therefore the source of the problems...

So changing the default folder to another one doesn't solve anything?

Well I just tried with a part file and it works... This would therefore come from the fact of using an assembly file! With an assembly file, I always get the same message: "Unable to find a property page for ASSEMBLIES files. Click on 'Create now...' ' to launch the property form editor.

Is there any other format than .prtprp for forms with assemblies?

@PL, no no I tried it as well but I have the impression that it comes from the fact of using an assembly

For the assemblies it's asmprp

Indeed, as I indicated in my penultimate message (penultimate if you count this one),  the extension is different for the file type!

Here is the list again:

.prtprp for parts

.asmprp for assemblies

.drwprp for drawings

.wldprp for welded constructions

Just FYI, SW has only 1 custom property file location.

So if you wanted to change it, you have to delete the current one to put the new path.

Forgetting to copy the properties file into this new directory too.
