What are the recommended notebooks for Solidworks 2016-2017 premium

Hello and thank you all.

I'm going to follow your advice by using an old version than my SW  2016-2017 Premium, so as not to panic the fans of this macbook pro touchbar all just arrived this morning. Indeed GT22 and Gérald you have to pay a nice amount of money at apple to have performance. (3000 euros).

As for the workstation, I have already planned a PC (my workstation):

http://www.lynkoa.com/forum/import-export-formats-neutres/conseils-pour-assemblage-pc-solidworks-2016-et-ansys

I assimilated well, after reading and rereading all the information, that I needed a pc with speed, and dedicated graphics cards whether it was for Solidworks, ansys etc etc...

By comparisons who uses a laptop and from which brand, config?

John.

here @ blacknagata here is what you need less than 1 000€ guaranteed 6 months with docking station

and if you want a PC a little + powerful you remove the 2 RAM of 4 giga and you replace them

by 2 of 8 giga

so 32 giga of ram

and you also buy another large capacity battery

With this PC you also have the possibility to add another hard drive instead of the DVD bay via a shopping cart

with this you will in theory be able to run smoothly without too much trouble ;-)

Hello,

Indeed, I looked and would be very interested in addition to the Macbook Pro that I received a few days ago (for our other software used).

I could see that the graphics card is well dedicated to SW....

Thank you for everything GT22

John.

you don't think I'm going to recommend gear incompatible with SW

it would be the last straw

for the time that I have been trying in vain to explain the why and how

have a good evening give me news where you make the effort to buy it ;-)

and at this price I doubt you'll find anything better ;-)

Gt22, Is it a reliable microkdo site?

Have you already ordered on it?

@ Bart no problem on the pc ocasse sites that I recommend

microkdo; Mio; pc4you

it's reliable sites several people here and on other SW forums

we buy PCs, and are delighted

don't forget that a workstation PC is a tool made to run 24 hours a day

and having a workstation at 1/3 of the price is still appreciable

they are + guaranteed so no big risk it seems to me

Dear Comrade, this is a bluffing cartoonist who is talking to you!!!

I tried a surface pro4 i7 512SSD 16GB intel iris  card with SW 2014....

Apart from the size of the screen which does not make the design easy I encountered a fluidity of design equal to a mobile workstation for 2300€

of course we forget about the tactil and we equip ourselves with a good mouse with the small keyboard that fits well, and we have an ULTRA mobile work possibility.

Once connected to a reasonably sized external screen, this tablet has nothing to envy to its laptop competitors.

I don't think the experience would have been the same if SW 2016 was installed on it

Hello,

Yes, I will give you feedback on all my purchases (laptop and desktop).

A question intended for Mac users who have tried to use Solidworks on macbook pro "Gerald or any other users  wishing to answer it"

PS: It's not to annoy, it's to have an opinion on the matter.

What do you think about this: https://bizon-tech.com/us/bizonbox3-egpu.html/

John.

it's still not suitable for SW

@+

Maybe by taking the bare chassis and putting in a SW certified card.

but the most limiting (in performance and stability), will remain the windows emulation under Mac-OS.

"Stef Beno" indeed the Nvidia M5000, M6000, K series cards... and SW card goes on in this case. I contacted the company, having confirmed that it was already done by users and using Windows on their Mac Book Pro, Mac pro etc etc.

For emulation, Fusion 8 would be the best compromise...

John.

The other problem I see is that it's a shame to have a laptop if it's to get an external box (not small by the way) to compensate for a lack when there are integrated solutions (admittedly less "smart").

Don't forget that this box will have to be powered...

AMD has released a nice thing but you have to have the compatible hardware

http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/technologies-gaming/xconnect

and an external case for a graphics card connected to a thunderbolt for Mac, a deal for more than 1000 € without the graphics card ....

Hello,

And thank you Gérald for your information.

For those interested, there are various solutions including a company:  https://bizon-tech.com/ that I contacted and provided me with the following information:

have double-checked the compatibility information, unfortunately, Quadro M4000, M5000 and M6000 will not work.

Only these Quadro GPUs are compatible: Quadro K4000, Quadro K4200, Quadro K5000, Quadro K5200, Quadro K6000.

The BizonBOX 3 has enough bandwidth to use any of this GPUs at 95-97%.

Case working in Thunderbolt 3 with a rather reasonable footprint  and beautiful design.

(Product with a possible warranty extension, which is not negligible...).

For comparisons, I will contact the company "Sonnet" in order to have the compatibility table of Nvidia graphics  cards... and know the bandwidth capacities.

I just read an article that I think will not be of interest:

http://www.gmcprod.fr/index.php/2-uncategorised/10-configuration-pour-solidworks

Using SolidWorks on a Mac

It is not recommended to use Macs to work on SolidWorks. This is of course possible thanks to the possibility of installing a Windows operating system on your Mac. Those who use a Mac to work on SolidWorks are savvy Mac users and use it for everything else. The problem is that running two operating systems in parallel requires double the resources and therefore the capacities of the machine will be limited, especially RAM and graphics card. The CPU, on the other hand, the more cores it has, the lower the clock speed and SolidWorks prefers the opposite, a faster clock speed preferable to multiple cores. Mac offers Quad-core or dual quad-core in its best machines. Poor choice for SolidWorks which runs better on fast dual-cores which is also cheaper.

Thank you for this additional info
