I want to make a dream come true, that of restoring a VW Cox convertible. Before making my purchase, I would like to find 3D models in any software and failing that, launch a challenge for the community. All together we could make this project a success.
I've already tried on other car models and it's true that it helps a lot, after that's true that in your case we're not going to do pixelart (or mangacar for families of that kind of thing) so we'll still have a lot of work.
I think the most judicious thing is to mix the two solutions, i.e . to take a pre-existing model on grabcab, insert the blueprints of the karman on the projection plans that go well and modify the existing according to it.
It's not necessarily as rewarding as doing everything from scratch but it has the merit of being faster.
David, take the blueprint as a simple image, no more and no less.
In solidworks you have for example the possibility to put these images on plans to have a 2D display of your car.
Basically, you'll have two images on perpendicular planes that will display the two orientations of your blueprint (front and side in this case)... Ideally, a blueprint with a top view and a rear view could help too.
so with these displays it helps you draw the right shapes in 3D
a Karmann Beetle Cabriolet in the end is just a Beetle Cabriolet, isn't it?
I'm not an expert on VW oldies but from what I've read on the net, Karmann is just the builder of the model, so I'll tend to deduce that all VW cabs are necessarily Karmanns, right?
Obviously they were made in 1949 and 1979 and the aesthetic changes of the models seem to have repercussions on the entire range.
