Retrieve a sheet metal property to put in an equation

Hello everyone ,

I am trying to integrate into a new property, of my SLDPRT, the mass represented by a sheet metal piece by including the weight of the scraps.

This corresponds to 2 properties of the welded parts list, "width and length of sheet metal flank." (in red in the attached screenshot)
These 2 values x thickness x mass of the material should give me the result.

But how do you recover the assessed value of these 2 properties? and integrate them into an equation.?

I also want to add the 2 properties " "length to cut outside" and "length to cut inner loops" (in yellow)

and include them in a new equation (to quickly calculate the price of the laser)
Does it go through programming?, because I don't see how to do it
I'm on SW 2018 SP5

Hello

You can retrieve these properties by right-clicking on the sheet metal part in its MEP and there you select annotation==>properties from the list of welded parts and there it is displayed in the MEP then you right-click and edit the text in the window and there you will have your data that you can use.

I think with this data you should be able to do it. I advise you to make a note by copying the data into it and doing your equation there. But it will absolutely be necessary that all your parts are made of sheet metal. Once this note is made, all you have to do is drag and drop and you will have all the data you want.

Good evening

Thank you for your answer

I'll try and see, I didn't know that by putting an equation in a note, I could solve it.... I thought it was just text when edited.

So if I'm good, I put it all on the side so that it doesn't show, and I can make notes containing the result of my equations, to slide on the sheet metal parts...

Why do all parts have to be sheet metal? if there are volumes, it doesn't work? Note it doesn't bother, I rarely mix.

Thank you for your help

See you soon

Hubert

I am facing the same problem and I am also looking for the solution.

Yes, it is absolutely necessary that the part is made of sheet metal and moreover you have to right-click on the unfolded as described in my previous answer.

What would be the equation you would need ?

Hello

Ho nothing very complicated, in fact we just want to know the total weight of sheet metal to be destocked, SW only gives the weight of the part without counting the scraps (which we recycle if we can)
And then I would like to quickly know the perimeter to be cut, without having to measure every time we make a modification.

To make the equations, it should be fine, it was just how to get the info... I try as soon as I have 10 min....

If I understand correctly,

Do you want something like that?

Hello

Yes, well I'd rather be able to add everything up in a single note
I tested quickly, but I must not have understood how to enter my equation in a note, because it doesn't work.... I'm looking ;-)

Hello

I'm coming back to my subject because I can't put my equation in a note.

It doesn't calculate the result, since it doesn't recognize the operators  + / - = . Is it even possible?

Hello

I find that we can do it via a nomenclature, but the only problem is that I can't keep the equation of the sum of the two columns. Just click on the box next to the two lengths and click on  then select the D1+E1 box and validate and you will have the sum but this equation does not remain in the table when you save it. I'll attach the table to you and when you insert it, you'll have to select from the tab list. Here is a ZIP with a small TUTORIAL and the table

longueur_total_a_decouper.zip

You have to click on the unfold view and insert the nomenclature...

Hello

Thank you very much for the zip, I knew the equation in the nomenclature, but it doesn't fit with what I do, because as you say, you have to do it every time. I was looking for a property to insert into the MEP, in the MEP model itself why not, attached to the unfolded view. I search, but in fact I don't see how to do it; except in programming maybe, but I don't know anything about it.

Kind regards

Hubert

I managed to keep the equation in the nomenclature...

Have you been able to test with the latest version of the nomenclature that keeps the equation?

Hello

Sheet metal sidewall length is only usable in the properties of mechanically welded

What I would do personally:

Once the part is finished:
- "Unfold" sheet metal function
- Sketch on the unfolded part + rectangle of the perimeter in construction line
- Dimension the 4 sides of the rectangle
- Make another construction line that goes from who knows where, it doesn't matter and set it up in this way:
- Line length  = Dimension 1 + Dimension 2 + Dimension 3 + Dimension 4
=> retrieve the value of this "line length" dimension in the equations.
=> Do the same thing with different operators if you want to determine the mass
=====> "Fold" sheet metal function

Downside: If you decide to add a function that changes the size of the debiting sketch you will have to reposition the "Unfold/Sketch parameters/ Fold all the way to the bottom of the tree" group and connect the sketch to the new edges.

On the other hand, if you change the dimensions in the existing functions, it will do :)

I could send you an example if it's not clear

Good evening

Thank you for your answers, I'm looking at it.... in a few days.

@Michael: I can see the manipulation, but hey quite tedious to set up, we have several hundred parts.

@ ac cobra, thanks for the nomenclature, I'll transfer it to work.

I managed to integrate your formula into the nomenclature... I have hidden the columns with sheet metal sidewall surface as well as the thickness. You just need to right-click on Total Weight and show row/column to see them

Ho great!!

It's true that I didn't have time to watch it this week

Thank you I'll look at this tomorrow
