Hi all.
How can we link the value of a field in a part family (e.g. an extrusion) to a global variable declared in an assembly?
Thank you, and have a good weekend.
You want to control a field of the part family by a global variable located in an assembly that contains the part ??
I'm not saying it's impossible but in any case it's ultra dangerous because your part could be controlled by several assemblies.
You may also have problems if you open the part (or its drawing) without having the assembly open.
On the other hand, you can have dimensions driven by equations (which refer to your global variable) and other dimensions that are driven by your family of parts. You can possibly put points / end lines in sketches in order to have dimensions/dimensions of intermediate calculations (more possibility of calculation in excel than in soildworks in practice with the si().... which allows to do non-linear calculations but to program dimensions/repetitions with logical rules)
Hello froussel, and thank you for your answer.
The part I am talking about is specific to a single assembly; So no risk concerning your first reserve.
I noted the second one.
The modus operandi remains: which formula should be included in the table of the family of parts?
Have a good weekend.
Hello
basically bind a value of a parameter of the extrusion function to a custom property?
Tools --> equations --> dimension view
Here your values of the functions used in your room appear, you just have to make the desired value equal to a custom property already created before.
I made tutorials on "how to control a dimension with custom properties", the search option is not expensive; )
Hello
and thank you for your information.
Have a good end of the day.
