The 'winding' function works well (but only on simple surfaces: so only the cylinder)
A possible workaround:
- stitched surface of the outer surfaces (those to be engraved)
- surface offset of this surface (of the thickness of engraving)
- extrusion of the text from a plane outside the part and up to this offset surface (disjoint bodies)
-Use combine to remove 3D extruded text from the base body.
Part in PJ under 2020 sp3.0

After all, it all depends if you want the relief effect.
