Find an angle of view from a photo

Hello

I find myself in a dead end.
I'm sure it must be a very simple thing but I'm drying, impossible to connect the wires ^^

Basically, I have a picture of one of our machines taken from a certain angle of view.

And I would need to find this same angle of view on Solidworks to take renders of other machines from the same angle.

If anyone has a solution, I'm interested because I'm really lost^^

thank you in advance

Hello;

Assuming that components have been created with the same orthonormal coordinate system (X,Y,Z) (or better in a family of parts), by positioning your part in the desired position, press the space bar and then create a new view (which you can save).
From your screenshot, it seems that an "isometric" projection does the trick...

Kind regards.

The problem is that the image is a photo taken of an actual machine, not a Solidworks view.

[Joke On] I must have some... in the eyes because it looks like a 3D image and not a photo, the rendering is strange I think [Joke Off]

Hello
By laying the image in SW (sketch image) and then aligning the model?

yes, but how do you align it ^^?

Insert it at "scale 1" into the assembly?
Edit: Draw a line in the sketch superimposed on the image and then constrain the 3D model in the assembly on this sketch line.

First of all, we should recover if possible (see the exif properties of the file) the focal length.
Then, in SW, you have to create a scene with a camera that has the same focal length and manage to point it in the right direction.

We'll have to feel our way around.
It may be interesting to contact the studio that took the shot. He could give you the conditions of the shooting (focal length and position of the camera).

I'll see with my management if it's feasible but I don't think the studio spends its time measuring the angles :s

Finally I thought it would be a very simple thing, obviously not that much^^

Hello;

And using the photo as a (temporary) background in Solidworks?

then try to position one of your 3D components, as close as possible, and lock its position.

Kind regards.

it stretches the photo :s

… I'm drying.
I wonder if it's not easier to choose yourself an orientation in Solidworks (or directly under visualize) of the isometric or trimetric type and to include (redo) the rendering of the machine of this photo.

I feel less alone XD

So I've thought about that too but I have 2 problems. Basically I have a 2018 license that we passed in 2023 so since my company didn't take maintenance, I didn't vizualize. And to top it all off, since I switched to 2023, Photoview360 no longer works...
(they really don't do anything to help me eh :stuck_out_tongue: )

… it would have been too easy otherwise...
Changed your Solidworks license type from Professional to Standard?
Otherwise you should have the possibility to recover Visualize or photoview... Your 2023 version is necessarily under maintenance for one year...
What's wrong with Photoview?

No, we just did the updates.

When I launch it, the window opens and closes directly afterwards.
Whereas in 2018 it worked great.
I've already tried a lot of things, reinstall "Hello", Solidworks etc but it doesn't work so I gave up

… Photoview is directly integrated into Solidworks (since 2020 I think), it is no longer a standalone software (at least to my knowledge.)
You have to go through the Solidworks Add-ins to activate it.

yes yes I'm well aware of that...

My problem is that when it launches via the solidworks menu, the window opens and closes directly

I'm perplexed (but also under Solidworks 2022...)

I don't have a window opening when launching the add-in, only adding the Photoview tools in the Solidworks toolbar.

A quick question by the way, suppose you find the ad-hoc orientation of your component, how did you plan to render without Visualize and Photoview?

A simple screenshot is enough, I just need an image in the right angle, I don't need a realistic rendering for this project

Hello;

Have you tried inserting a sketch image?
=> In a room, create a new sketch on a plane (face?), then " Tools " menu-> " Sketching tools"->insert a sketch image...
image
… to be tested.

Hello
Yes I tried both in sketch image and in background in both cases I never manage to find the same orientation as the image. There must be a " distortion " that comes into play or something that distorts the rendering
