Cogwheel on Catia

Hello

I can't finish the drawing of my cogwheel on Catia. I always get stuck on the same step; the realization of the offset arch of my tooth.

I use Catia V5R19.

Thank you in advance.

post a screenshot to find out where you're stuck

@christian.c Thank you for the videos. I was indeed basing myself on the second video to draw but it doesn't work at the level of the curvature, for the first video it's a little different because I'm trying to draw a straight toothed wheel.

@franck.ceroux thank you for the link but it's an old version of Catia

It is indeed an old version but the file still works even in V5-6R2012 (R22).

Here's a screenshot. When I change the radius of the offset, the wheel deforms completely.

Traces only half a tooth.

It's + easy to constrain the spline.

@franck.ceroux I didn't understand very well.

I'm coming back (work).

if you only draw the right or left side of the profile it is + easy - of constraint and then you symmetrize the profile.

I got an R19 put your file and the values you want to modify.

I'll look if I find the PB.

Ah, I see. Here's the file. I would like the radius of the curvatures of the offset to be 0.39*m=0.39*5.9

If you have a detailed document of the steps, I would be grateful.

Hello I got your file, I'm trying to look this morning.

Hello.

Your profile has no constraints, so it's normal for him to do what he wants when you manipulate him.

The first thing I see on your screenshot is the display of the construction tree.

In the .doc I gave you some options to modify to display the settings and relationships, and the

First stages of constraints of the circles in concentricity and symmetry of the profile.

I note that the active part of the tooth profile is a circle : (normally it is a circle involute).

The next step will be to constrain the 3 lines and there I don't see what it represents.

Normally, to trace, the basic circle of the second wheel, the line of action, the angle of pressure, etc., is missing.

How do you transform a offset coefficient in a radius ?

There are configurators that deliver the finished route see link below.

It's for the first time that e draws a cogwheel on Catia, so I'm just following this tutorial to the letter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvyLuOPvMV8  as long as it's straight toothed.

Therefore, I don't really understand how to change the offset in radius or how to introduce the pressure angle even if for the latter I think it's the 20 deg angle chosen. How else should I add constraints?

Please take a look at the video to see if this is just what they are doing there.

Thank you for sharing the link to the gear generator but I don't think I could use it because I will need the drafting on catia to make an overall drawing of my parts afterwards.

Please excuse my questions that are a little trivial for you; I'm still a beginner.

Thank you very much for your help and clarification.

I just found a new tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8oap6me3U0

Should I follow this method?

I watched the video (speed too fast for my taste).

an error at the beginning inversion of the values (modulus and number of teeth):

For the rest it must be OK but I wonder if your CATIA options are well adjusted.

Because there are really no constraints on your route (especially that of H V geometry etc).

See Setting:

If this is not the case, your PB can be explained.

Attached is the edited file.

For those who want to go further and define the circle development.

See the documents of Sébastien Thibaud.

On his site you can retrieve the file RoueCylDentDroite.CATPart

Another way to get the result, different from the first link I had put and + sketch-oriented.

I just adjusted the constraint settings.

Thank you for your enormous help.

If it's the first time you've worked in auto constraint mode (SmartPick).

You have all the options under the SmartPick button (see option modified previously)

You'll notice that the mouse pointer changes when you hover it over your path.

Example Two circle (contact); Two circles, one of which is full (coincidence).

This mode can be temporarily disconnected by holding down the Shift key.

This is useful because the more tracing there is, the more constraint auto-detection there is.

This keyboard shortcut prevents untimely snapping.
