According to the help (http://help.solidworks.com/2019/french/SolidWorks/sldworks/t_Creating_a_Joined_Part.htm), the original part must be modified
stefbeno is right: the attachment follows the evolution of the parts AND the evolution of the assembly (if the parts move relative to each other).
Very very stupid question: who uses this and especially for what to do???
I did this to get 3D print-ready stls
Indeed this function + a "defeature" allows you to clean up an assembly for export quite quickly while continuing to keep the lines with the original files (so normally quite easy to update in case of evolution of the assembly)
