SOLIDWORKS - Basemaps

Hello

I deleted my custom .drwdot file. I managed to do it again without any problems.

The problem is that before this one offered me the "Size/Formats of basemap" panel directly when creating a new m.e.p. document.

This allowed me to select my basemap (.slddrt) A4 A3 A2 ...

In short, I haven't found how to reactivate the request.

Do you have any ideas of how to create a .drwdot file asking for the basemap format?

Thank you!!!

Hello, there's probably the answer here:

Well in the end, I took the original one from SW... There wasn't a huge difference with mine.

Thanks gt22 for the default paths. It saved me from searching. I'm waiting to see if anyone would still do before closing this post.

In the tutorial I indicated in my previous answer, it says:

"You can enable this setting in Tools>Options>Drawings, "Show sheet format dialog on add new sheet.""

So it's here:

  • If the Show Basemap dialog box when adding a new sheet option in Options Tool_Options_Standard.gifDrawingsis not selected and the properties of the Drawing Sheets document are not set, a new sheet is added using the format of the existing sheet.

To be able to choose your basemaps when creating a new plan, you have to go to tools -> option -> File  location -> document template -> add and then find your folder where your basemaps are saved

On the other hand, to be able to modify your basemap once it has been created (via properties etc), you have to go to tools -> option -> Default Templates -> Layouts -> select the "... " and go select the folder where your basemaps are saved

By clicking on standard format? It's not working?

Thank you for your answers but unfortunately it doesn't answer my problem.

My goal is when I create a new drawing: File>New>Drawing (.drwdot), Solidworks should automatically open the window for me to choose my basemap (.slddrt).

I don't want it to open me on a default background map (e.g. an A3 format).

The SW base file does it correctly though. So I copied it.

Unfortunately I have since a second problem... this one puts me in USA projection by default.

The projection does not depend on the basemaps (.slddrt), but on the models (.drwdot).

So I need to create a plan template that, when I launch it, automatically opens the window for me to choose my basemap. And then, by default, I put myself in Europe projection....

That's my goal... I've seen a lot of forums on the subject but no one is talking about a template that automatically launches the Outline Format window....

it's up to you to recreate the right background plan yours

in x format and declare them as the default basemap

which of + is via this model, it can and must be interactive via the personalized properties of your part(s), indicate in auto the designer, the date, the material, etc......

For me, in order to avoid this type of problem, I saved all the background plans in the 2 formats.

I did this because I can have the same part for 2 to 3 different companies (it's like for the masters (renault, opel etc...)

So rather than retyping everything I created similar basemaps, and plan templates that allow you to create for one company and if necessary via the property of the sheet modify it without losing the dimensions and the property save it for another.

The backgrounds are when it was super practical when you make a new sheet

Oh say, I think I've understood part of the problem.

When you do file-> open, instead of clicking on the background map icon, click on the "advanced" icon at the very bottom. You will then have the choice all the time in what you choose (here, you are in "novice" mode I think)

Well seen @coin37coin, personally I hadn't even thought about this possibility

Thank you for your help. Sorry if I misunderstand. I'll try to rephrase my problem differently:

When I open SW, I do File > New: now I'm in advanced mode and I have my custom models (part, assembly, drawing):

I click on Drawing. Solidworks opens a new window for me by offering me the choice of the basemap:

Here, everything is fine because I can choose my background as I wish. All you have to do is draw... except for the problem I am by default in US projection. So, I right-click > property and I change to Europe.

So, I say to myself (out of laziness) "Why not make a plan template with the default Europe projection?! "

So I would like to do the same thing described earlier without having to change the background properties manually. I have tried but in vain so far...

I know how to make plan templates (.drwdot), I also know how to make basemaps (.slddrt), I know how to change the US/Europe projection. I know how to go to the options and indicate the default paths. All that, no worries.

The thing is, I don't know how to make a plan template that, when I create a new one, AUTOMATICALLY asks me which background plan I want to use.

I hope I'm clear enough. Thank you for your time for my concern:p

For me it opens a model of standard sw doc which is in usa and then glued a layer of background plan.

Find the default model and modify the from USA to Europe.

So I'm not surprised at all and that's why I went through another method.

I notice that you have 2 cartridge tab and customer cartridge. Isn't there a mix between all this?

It may be stupid what I'm going to say, but if you save your background map after going from USA to Europe in .drwot, doesn't it change anything?

Because then you could create an A3 USA and an A3 Europe (or other formats) and thus choose what you like the most

@Gerald: The thing, as soon as I save a template in .drwdot with a basemap, SW no longer asks me by default which basemap I want to use. when I make a new document.

Ex: I open any mep model. SW asks me which fdp I want. I choose an A3. My drawing is displayed with an A3 fdp with US projection. I change it in Europe. Then I save it as... in .drwdot in the folder of my models. I close everything and I make a new document with my new template. And then... it no longer offers me to choose which background I want...

For my client cartridges, these are just shortcuts to mep with pre-defined fdp.

@coin37coin: I tried. The projection does not seem to be related to the fdp but to the model. I think I'm going to create multiple templates with different formats. I will keep my fdp in case of changes during the drawing phase or to create a new sheet. As Gerald advocated earlier.

I don't think SW leaves us the choice to create this kind of model. I'll contact them.

I'll leave the post open to any other suggestions. Thank you for your help.

As you say:

I open a mep model of some kind. SW asks me which fdp I want. I choose an A3. My drawing is displayed with an A3 fdp with US projection. I change it in Europe. Then I save it as... in .drwdot

it's not in .drwdot that you have to register it but in the background .slddrt

The drwdot is when you already have a MeP that you want to modify

plan templates (.drwdot) that you call by size/format

 Basemaps (.slddrt)  for new documents

I solved my problem! By dint of perpervation, we find. Explanation.

As a reminder, I had a single standard template that called my basemaps of different formats (A0 to A4).
When I opened a new drawing template (.drwdot), SW automatically asked me what the basemap format (.slddrt) I wanted.
The problem, once the choice was made, I was in US projection and I had to change it manually.
So I wanted to remake a standard model.... the SW problem no longer automatically offers the choice of format when creating the .drwdot template...

Here is the procedure for making a classic template/basemap:
- Open a new drawing document ( In Advanced mode: File>New>Drawing)
- Modify as needed
- Then to save it as a File>Save As... and choose the format ".drwdot" or as the basemap File>Save the basemap...
So that's the procedure that everyone knows. Classic.

Maintaining the procedure for making a model with request for the basemap to be used:
- Open a new drawing document ( In Advanced mode: File>New>Drawing)
- On the sheet name tab (bottom left) Right-click>Delete
- On the new Right-Click tab > Property
- In the properties window only change the sheet name, scale, projection, and labels as needed. The following checkmarks must be selected: "Standard size", "Show only standard size" and "Show basemap". The text space must contain nothing other than "*.drt" (it is there by default)
- Click OK
-An alert message should be displayed: "The basemap cannot be found." Click on ok.
-SW insists that you tell him which background to use. Queneni! Say Cancel him.
-Then to save it as a template File>Save As... and choose the ".drwdot" format

When you create a new drawing document from the newly created template, SW will ask you which basemap you want... There you go!

But.... for some reason, it doesn't work with my professional PC... When creating the new document, after giving it the background to use I have a bug... On my personal PC it works fine.

Oh no, Gerald. Is it the other way around:) .slddrt basemaps are designed for the format (A4, A3, etc...) and .drwdot templates for new documents.

If you have drawn in A4 format and then need to change to A3 format, you can only do so with the backgrounds (.SLDDRT) by:

Right-click on the sheet tab > Property  and there you choose your fdp in .slddrt
