STL for 2-color printing

Hello,
I use SW 2017.
I want to print a part in 2 colors. To do this I have to make 2 stl, one per color, how should I go about it?
Thank you
Diiity

In 3D you need 2 separate bodies then you export each body.
Forced to have 2 STL files? Some slicer it seems to me allows other methods. (On my Sidewinder x4 especially with Orca Slicer)

So, you make a piece, and how do you make 2 bodies in the same piece?

Hello,
Which slicer to use? On BambuStudio for example you have to record in 3mf

ideamaker

Hello,
Ok so at first glance it manages the 3mf on the other hand SW2017 I have a doubt.
You have to look in the export formats, otherwise maybe step or iges. The goal for slicing it is to have selectable faces (not possible on stl)

Not tested, I'm at work but according to the Ai possible on Orca Slicer to paint a face (or area) for color change even on a stl.
Another possibility to change color via M600 at a certain layer height. (depending on M600 support on the printer).
It all depends on your printer, the filament change method (automatic, 2 heads...)

To make 2 bodies, you must either design differently (so as not to merge 2 parts) or do a slight removal of material to separate a volume into 2. Depending on the volume to be separated into 2, it can be more or less complicated.
On the other hand, it doesn't seem useful anymore if you use orcaslicer for example.

Or the easiest way is to cut the body in 2 via the " split " function using a plane that you create at the desired height

I found with AI, you have to create 2 bodies in the same room, a base, a cube for example and then extrude inside this base a second body without merging it, very important.
We end up with 2 volumetric bodies.
Then, export the 2 bodies to STL independently, the cube to STL1 and the second extrusion to STL2, with the option " do not convert STL output data to positive space", " binary " and " fine " and in the "export " window " selected body".
In ideamaker, import the 2 stl then after selecting them right click and " merge into a single mesh " and assign to each stl the extruder of the color that goes well.
