Square Section Tube Symbol

Good evening everyone,

In SolidWorks (2014 SP5), does anyone know how to insert the symbol for a square section tube (such as Ø for a cylindrical tube) in a mep?

It doesn't appear anywhere in the pre-saved symbols or in the Windows character table...

Help:-)

Thank you in advance.

Hello

It seems that it does not exist in special characters: http://forum.pcastuces.com/excel_2007_sigle_dimension_carre-f23s25302.htm

There may be a way out by looking for a font that would match this symbol to a classic letter. There is this site http://www.dafont.com/fr/

Or else make a block, but it may not fit with your final need?

yes, I'll try that. We'll see...

Thank you

Good evening

Well, my pb is solved! There is a Windows application that allows you to create custom characters. Run: eudcedit

The operation is quite blurry, but after a few tries it's done.

The new font is in PJ for those who are interested...

Hello

As I continue my research, you need to check that the symbol is still legible on other posts. The font being used by your computer, your subcontractor for example will not have it and could see a "#" or something like that instead of the symbol. And this by opening a slddrw, dxf, or even pdf of your plan.

To check

In fact, my symbol is made from the Century Gothic font, but indeed, I don't know if a subcontractor will be able to read it. That said, I usually send my plans in pdf, dxf or dwg, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Not so sure, but I'm not sure about my move! :)

When you do a drawing conversion (slddrw) to dxf or dwg, the annotation or dimensions remain real text and are not transformed into sketch blocks or entities. They can be edited.

Same thing for pdfs, in general, you can copy/paste the text of a pdf. Very practical when you want to translate a document with Google Translate.

To be tested!

The PDF being a "photo", I don't think it causes him any problems. LF

To copy/paste it, he probably won't recognize it. But for the reading and printing of the plan, he should leave it as it is

On the other hand, for DWG and DXF, if it doesn't have the font, I don't really see how it can do it.

That said, to answer the initial question, why don't you use this symbol which is made for that? Is he no longer on Sldw2014?

Hello

For all special characters, you can go to the Windows Character Table.

At best you can find an ASCII code, example for the diameter: Alt + 0216

At worst you select the character to copy and paste.

@coin37coin, pdfs (generated via SW) are not simple images, that's why you can copy/paste the text.

@lespetitspieds, can you attach a dxf and a pdf with the symbol and some text behind it? We'll tell you if we can read it!

@s.b, it looks like this symbol is not in the special character table, the best I saw is a square with a diagonal, but this diagonal doesn't protrude from the square.

@Benoit.LF: yes yes though. You take a photo at the moment "T" and you send.

I see the PDF as a print. Except that instead of having it on paper, you have it in digital. Or I didn't understand everything in PDF format? anyway, I would be very surprised if the symbol doesn't stay ;-)

That said, we'll be fixed when @Lespetispieds will attach a PDF

Hello

@coin37coin, no a PDF is not a simple image, there is "intelligence" in the PDF as for example and as @Benoit.LF  says, copy the text that is in a pDF which would not be feasible if it was just an image.

@Benoit.LF

For the square tube, I use a square, with no bar in the middle.

Hello, hello...

Sorry, I wasn't available yesterday!

So this morning I put together a little package for you.

There are:

- a dwg from SW

- a dxf from SW

- a pdf from SW (in recording)

- a pdf from SW (in print: adobe pdf)

So there you go, I'm looking forward to your feedback :-)

Hello@lespetitspieds

FYI, here's what I get (see image):

  • imprimé.pdf: OK
  • enregistré.pdf: Crushed symbol plus the value 40
  • .dxf and dwg drawing: the symbol is replaced

And when I copy and paste text from the pdf, I can't keep the symbol when I paste it into a word, or a google search. And moreover with different results!

If the goal is "only" to make an annotation to indicate the size of a tube, for my part I would make a block integrating this symbol, coupled with an annotation to write the dimension.

Thank you @Benoit.LF for your feedback.

In fact, it's mainly to put in a flow table.

So, if it doesn't show up in the dxf, it sucks!

For the saved version pdf, it's weird, with me too, there is the display defect. The pb is therefore created directly when the pdf is generated. I'll try again by fiddling in the settings.

Second attempt.

So, I started my saved version pdf again and this time it seems to be clean.

It's good at home. To be validated in the dxf/dwg.

Arfgh in the bars... And what do you think of the "framed oblique" symbol that I proposed yesterday, which is found in the special characters of Word? I grant you, he's not perfect. :/

Yes, indeed, the character table symbol can possibly troubleshoot for the dwg and dxf.

this one in the same Segoe UI Symbol font seems the most appropriate since it's a square with a straight bar [|] and can be found in the Miscellaneous Technical section (subset)
(here in plain text (AltGr+5)crochet_ouvert (AltGr+6)more (AltGr+°)crochet_fermé)
