Chamfered bent sheet metal and its unfolding

Hi all

I have a sheet metal ep. 15mm Bent, Chamfered.

When I unfold it, I lose the chamfer.

I would like to keep this chamfer on the unfolded sheet metal. Do you have a solution please? My client is working with the SW2015 version.

A lead?

Thank you.

Phil

Good evening

It is normal for your chamfer to disappear because you are doing machining by material removal. SW considers this operation to occur after folding, which is also true in the creation tree.

Moreover, since your part is 15 thick, you will be forced to do a re-machining after the classic bending. The rework, if you don't do it with a laser, will be sporty in CNC.

Kind regards

Hello

Thank you for your feedback.

This is precisely the meaning and reason for my question. I am looking to "chamfer" the flat sheet metal at the workbench, before folding. Because a "standard" machining after bending is very uncomfortable (difficult to clamp correctly).

Is there a solution?

Thank you for your help.

Hello

For me, the only valid solution (but provided you have more than a few parts to make) is to take over in CNC or laser tube after folding. If you do the front chamfering with the backflow of material due to bending, your chamfer profile will be more or less modified, especially in view of the thickness. It all depends on the precision you are looking for!

I note that you say ""at the workbench"" which suggests that the chamfers are done with a mano. Is this the case ?

What I said earlier, what poses a small difficulty is the clamping of the part. Then all you have to do is make a template corresponding to the part once folded and fix it with toggle clamps or other commonly used clamping systems.

Kind regards
