Hello, if it's a 2D drawing you can insert it in your part file as a reference. Select a plane/insert dwg/dxf. This way, the 2D plan becomes a sketch automatically and can be edited by converting it to an editable sketch (right-click on the sketch).

But generally speaking, yes you can start from a dwg to do sheet metal or volume. The dwg just has to lend itself to it.

So in this case a 2D software seems more appropriate to me. Autocad allows this, by installing the demo valid for 1 month for example, or turning to free software like freecad I think
