Hello
Is there in Solidworks PDM the possibility to create and use " global" variables , i.e. not attached to a data card and therefore to a file?
For example, I use the address of a network location in several tasks (step generation, automatic mailing,...), and I would like to be able to store it in a single location rather than stuffing all its locations one by one (without forgetting a single one) and call this variable when I need it.
Hello
If you go through the tasks, there is the possibility to format the storage path (option detail of the output file of the task).
If the network path is fixed, it can be set as the header of the default path and not allow users to change it.
For the variable, on the other hand, it must be associated with something, but you can always make a " free variable" present in the map that is not displayed and can contain a fixed value.
Edit: this variable can be updated by a macro on all the files in the vault without extracting anything.

Thank you for your detailed answer.
For conversions I go through the myPDMTools tasks so I don't have the same formalism, but the problem would be the same with what you show: I have several conversion tasks (step, edrawings, pdf, ...) and I have to modify the path in each task.
The idea of a free variable called on all data cards and written by macro (or mypdmtools task for that matter) when the path changes is interesting, I have to dig deeper.
I admit that I have never watched this story of a free variable because I did not understand the interest via a concrete case, it may be the opportunity
Hello
In our country, we use it during migrations to convert part of the database.
It is also used in some state changes to manage automatic transitions that apply different revisions for example.
Basically, it allows you to modify the content of a variable without extracting the file.
