If you want to change default values in a data map, your fields must be editable, and your file must be checked out.
This is a question of setting up the data cards, which you can modify via the "Administration" tool.
However, if you want to change SolidWorks file property values without going through the card, you can, after you check out the file, change its properties to Files/Properties. It is a solution whose use should be limited. It's best to change your card template if the problem happens too often.
