I am looking for a 3D viewer for a client who wants to open the files I send him. I tried with PDF3D but the files are too heavy for him and especially too recent. I'm on Windows 11 and he stayed on Windows 7. I have browsed the forum and there are many solutions with e-drawing but the links are too old and are no longer active. On the Solidworks website, e-drawing is no longer available for this version of Windows. Would anyone have the solution, except that he changes his PC. Thank you very much
Works only for parts files (sldprt) and not for assemblies. So register the assembly in parts beforehand and that's it. Advantage of this solution is that you can save only the outer faces to lighten the file (check the option) Thank you A.R
@Le_Bidule edrawing also allows you to export an assembly (.easm), you don't have to go through a part. To make an executable edrawing you have to save from SW in edrawing format, open the said file with edrawing and save from edrawing in executable edrawing format. The only flaw is that if you are in 64 bit version and the client is in 32 bit windows, it will not work.
Hello Le_Bidule; YES, it works with MEP+Sldprt+SldAsm. It's only for vision and export that can be opened without Solidworks. … There you go; There you go... @+. Good luck. AR.
Watch out for executables !! Many computer systems in companies (firewalls, antivirus, etc.) do not accept them in emails or other data transfer networks, it is too dangerous (viruses, malware and other crap...).
If you really want to use Edrawing, I advise you to open your 3D SW (part or assembly) directly with Edrawing and to "save as → HTML". Benefits:
No risk of blockage for your customer
easy to open by it (an internet browser is sufficient, Chrome, Edge, Opera, Firefox, Brave, Safari...)
Indeed, there is the problem with firewalls, and others... On my side, to get around this problem, I delete the <*.exe> extension, and I specify to rename it by the receiver of the file, normally it passes... By HTML, it's better too. @+. AR.
Thank you all for your answers. I've tried everything and nothing works. The major problem I think comes from its Windows 7 in 32 bits and I'm in 64. I tried by HTML as well but for the time being I tested it before sending it and I can't do it. An error message appears indicating internet explorer 10 or higher while I open with Chrome. Never succeeded either with .htm, under opera, firefox or edge, same message as the one published by @cchandelier . Otherwise to test to download an old 32 bit version and send it to your client, I found this link:
Edit: otherwise you give him a computer reseller link! Because Windows 7 support ended on January 14, 2020. So we'll have to think about evolving!
Sorry @cchandelier I believed it too but I hadn't checked the proper functioning.
On google with "telecharger edrawing 32 bit", you find several links, via clubic download sites... Not tested but with a bit of luck, you will find a functional one.
No problem tkt. I had already done this method yesterday but I haven't found the nugget yet. For the moment I have sent 2D plans to move the project forward, I will continue my research.
I think that the price of a W10 or 11 pc for purchase or rental is probably lower than the cost of the hours spent looking for a solution, which in any case will not be satisfactory. There is probably a reason why your client does not want to change his pc, we don't know everything, as far as I am concerned I will give him this advice.
And we can't always please the customer, I'm on Ubuntu, it's up to you to find me a drive under Ubuntu? Sorry but with your version of W7 no more functional tools-> either visio to show the 3d or validation on plan (pdf, dwg...), not 50 solutions.
@Le_Bidule ; @sbadenis I fully agree with you for the version of his Windows. I sent him 2D plans at first and an appointment at the office was already arranged. Thank you for your help and sorry for wasting your time
