Is there a link between smoothing and surfacing modeling?

I want to design an oil bottle with a complex shape that starts with a square shape at the bottom and ends with a cylindrical shape at the top.

Do I use  surfacing only or is there a link with smoothing?

Hello

Wouldn't a surface scan do the trick? With a round sketch for the upper part and a square one for the lower part, it would then be sufficient to use one of the two as a guide curve

The problem is that I'm not a professional in surfacing.

Do you have a document or a website about surfacing and thank you.

What software do you use?

On the surface in general no, after that there are a lot of tutorials on the subject, especially since in your case the volume is relatively simple

After that, here is a link on how to use the swept surface command (for solidworks):

And another link for the scan options, which allow you to adjust the parameters as best you can

Thank you

I am using Solidworks vertion 2015.

I'm going to start using smoothing by creating guide curves on the four sides of the bottle (Radii R7 / R35 /R79.4  first  view ) and then (Rays R7 / R18 / R40.8)  and we'll see what happens.
