Convert to sheet metal

Hello everyone,

I have a volume part (attached) but I would like to unfold it and therefore convert it into sheet metal. I tried "Convert to sheet metal" but it doesn't work.

Can I have a little help?

Kind regards

Hello

It seems to me that the room must be open to be converted into sheet metal!

Try a cutout on the smaller side.

Because in your case, you can't select a face for the fixed entity!

Yes indeed the software will not guess where to cut the part to  lay it flat, so you have to create a cut of a few tenths

Like my classmates, a cut so that he can find his way around.

On the other hand, I use Insertion/Sheet metal/Folds after selecting the edge of the end of the unfolded.

I made a 1mm opening but he still doesn't want to do anything to me.

Is it a volume resulting from a smoothing? If so, you should use the Sheet Metal Sheet/Transition Bend function.

I tried with "folds" he tells me that "one or more folds could not be done"

Can you send us your file? Which version of SW are you using?

Thank you for making the "SLDPRT" available, because normally it should do it.

Here it is, it is not exactly the same, but it was built in the same way

Part4.SLDPRT

It's SW 2014

Well I'm passing my turn, SW13...

A print'screen with the construction tree for those who don't have SW14? Please. ;-)

Well finally I see how it's done with eDrawing 2014...

Did you click on the edge to do Insertion/Sheet Metal Work/Folds, and not the face (see image, the selected edge is in blue at the top)?

Is it normal that you have 2 volumetric bodies?

We don't see the cutout in your screenshot!!

Yes, one volume body to limit the other volume body.

yes I did click on the blue stop

Indeed, you have to cut your part in one place.

How do you bend a piece to form this closed shape???

Simply impossible. =)

Personally, I do wolf mouths like this: see example SW13.

I succeeded using your method as well!!

There must be a small detail that escapes us!!

The problem comes from your "surface restrict" function, it cuts your piece, but creates angled edges.

As a result, it cannot convert this volume into sheet metal, since it contains functions that do not exist in sheet metal.

Replace your Restricted Surface function with the extruded material removal function by ticking the "normal material removal" checkbox

Logically, it should work.
