3DEXPERIENCE Usage and Features Discussion

Hello,

Uh... As @Maclane suggested:

[…] wouldn't this be an opportunity for the Visiativ and/or Solidworks representatives to be heard here? Just to have a little counter-expertise, without any wooden language.

@OlivierH, how is the deployment going?

There have been remarks about the allocated storage space... I participated in many webinars, watched a lot (too many?) demo videos and tested 3DX several times during MyCAD events in particular. I noticed that the generation of new revisions is of the " dependent user" style:

  • If we don't check the " new revision " box, I have the impression that we are overwriting the previous version.
  • never been able to have a demo of recovery of a previous version/revision!

When I asked the question, there was no clear answer: " Yes, but no..." It must certainly be set up somewhere... My colleague must know...  I couldn't identify the colleague in question to ask him the question again.
If this is indeed the way it works, it's not surprising that the storage space offered is so small, but really not great for the history!

@icome , what can you report on this point?

To end this post on a funny note: I recently had a contact with a North American 3DX user who also gave me his feedback and gave me the most hilarious of comparisons (I'm translating by trying to stay within the limits so as not to involve a moderator):

3DX is a bit like Stallone's puppy in Demolition Man, with the 3 gold-plated shells to justify the price... You can chi¤# your design but in the end, you have a lot of it and you only have the bills to torch you!

Well, I'd also like to say that I had very positive feedback! But fewer in number... and not as funny!

All that remains is to learn how to use the 3 shells, without getting fines for violating the code of morality of language. »

Hello Cyril

I believe that we lack a forward-looking view!
Let me explain! (well almost)

If we put two seconds in Dassault's lens, it comes down to "the future of SW is SW on the cloud" and therefore all that is file on the cloud as well.
(the goal is to no longer go through Windows by also using new technologies that are said to be more efficient, than the ancestral codification of SW (according to a VISIATIV manager).
For the record, the first versions of SW were on linux

The new version of solidworks on the cloud is from an HMI point of view strictly identical to the standalone version. On the other hand, everything that is BDD management is certainly more efficient on the cloud.

So if I summarize there is surely a lot to gain by moving to the cloud for all new projects and maintaining the old system without any update and 10 years to 15 years later stopping the SW windows.

So the real problem, if I understand correctly, would be to have a real transition support (which will cost three blinds by the way).
This shows that selling software (you push a box on the counter and that's it) is easier than making a switch that can integrate all the complexity found in companies, including those using sophisticated EPDMs.

Having carried out several times large system switchovers, whether in the technical field, in distribution, or accounting for companies with several million customers, I can assure you that if you don't have a dedicated project team to ensure the transition, then you are sure to banana and curse banana farming for the rest of your life.

Today, Visiativ has not become aware of the extent of the problem and the argument of a few available technicians does not hold water.
Don't confuse expert with expert in slaps that get lost if it's badly managed
A revolution is not done with a wooden fork and a sling.

Kind regards

I had to look up "Espingole" in the dictionary...

I'm reviving this topic, deploring the fact that, although it's only a forum, neither Visiativ, nor Solidworks, nor any other representative of 3Dxperience, is quick to defend their platform...
Are they lacking arguments?

Hi all

Beware of amalgams, it is not a question of "defending" the platform but of understanding it better: our expert @alexia.fernandes has given you some answers earlier in the discussion but unfortunately cannot answer all the specific cases of each one.

Have you seen the video I shared with you in this discussion? https://www.visiativ.com/replay/les-evolutions-de-loffre-3dexperience-solidworks/

Also, I suggest you watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYgrv3_3WXo on the difference between SOLIDWORKS PDM & 3DEXPERIENCE

An expert will be coming to answer the previous messages in the conversation this week!
Have a nice day! Coralie

I have a problem with this video that confronts SW PDM and 3DEXPERIENCE...
There are a lot of omissions... and these tend to put 3DX in the spotlight.

PDM= hosting on your server / 3DEXPERIENCE exclusively on the Cloud part...

False: It is possible to have 3DX on premise, and it is possible to put PDM in the Cloud: SOLIDWORKS PDM in the Cloud - Computer Aided Technology (cati.com)

PDM = file-based document model

Yes, but not only... PDM has an item manager. Ok, it is what it is, but it exists. In addition, PDM has a super interesting feature which consists of the creation of virtual files (Warning: I am talking about virtual files, and not virtual components in a SW assembly).

And then there's SW MANAGE... It is not mentioned, but this add-on is a great booster with improved article management, process management, task management that allows object or record linkages to use the vocabulary of the software such as a Gantt task with a CAD deliverable... just like 3DX!

The search for use cases in 3DX is graphical

Well in PDM you have to activate the TreeHouse view in the Content and Used in tabs, and it becomes graphic. It may not be as powerful, but...

PDM is essentially designed to manage the data produced by the mechanical design office equipped with SolidWorks...

SW Electrical for electrical design, Composer for technical documentation, Visualize for marketing documentation, Autocad, to name a few, all have their SW PDM integration.
And PDM connectors for software other than SolidWorks are also available.

If it is not a question of VISIATIV " defending " the platform but of better understanding it, I would like to better understand this please:

[…] configurations, derivative parts, parts inserted into another, virtual components, reference replacements, family tables, custom toolboxes, ... and so on! Guess what? with the 3DX the "technical support" advises you to forget all this because the platform manages it very badly...

If it is recommended to forget about these (essential for me) features of SW, how will 3DX compensate for this lack?

Hello

I'm a little late in this thread and won't go over all the points I've been talking about for a few months.
I am a support manager at Visiativ.
I want to tell you that the 3DExperience platform is constantly evolving. The 2024 version has seen some great changes, particularly in terms of configuration management and performance optimization.
In addition, our CSM (Customers Success Manager) team is responsible for helping you get started with the 3DExperience platform and our support service is at your disposal to take into account any malfunctions you may encounter.

Yours sincerely

Hi all.
Are there any new users of the 3D Experience?
We are currently being rolled out in the company.
I would like to have feedback on the feedback from deployments in other companies.
Thank you for your answers.

And how is the deployment going on your side?
I haven't seen in your previous posts which system you were migrating your data from. PDM? Other?

We didn't have a PDM before.
We go straight to the a3D Experience.
I've been testing for a few months now with 2 other colleagues.
It takes a long time to set up because I think we are among the first to use it.
The good thing is working on your hard drive, which is faster than working on a server. On the other hand, you have to plan a backup time on the DASSAULT server during the day, coffee breaks are ideal for that.
The negative point is forgetting the old way of working with WINDOWS Explorer and file classification, it's a bit hard to get started.

Personally, at home, we have given up from my point of view, not yet perfect. And that's clearly unsuitable for us.
